Dunlop, Germany – November 1st 2015: After a year of intense racing on the world’s most demanding race circuit, Walkenhorst Motorsport have won the coveted VLN Speed Trophy Championship with their BMW Z4 GT3. The team took a crucial sixth place in Saturday’s race with drivers Jesse Krohn (Finland) and Victor Bouveng (Sweden) amassing enough points to top the championship after the ten 2015 races.
It was a strong season for the team, taking two class wins this year and scoring consistently in the other races . Walkenhorst BMW are a Dunlop development partner and have benefited from the intense development from the tyre company during the last two years.
In addition to showing great consistency throughout the year, the team have also shown incredible pace, taking pole position for Saturday’s race with a record breaking lap. Jesse Krohn’s pole lap of 8m 01.3s was the fastest qualifying lap of the year on the gruelling 26km circuit in Germany’s Eifel Mountains.
For Dunlop, the Speed Trophy is the latest accolade for their Nordschleife specification tyres, adding to Dunlop’s 24h victories in 2013 (Mercedes AMG) and 2010 (BMW).

Top three qualifying lockout
Whilst Walkenhorst BMW’s 2015 Speed Trophy win was the highlight of the race weekend, Dunlop performance was also proven by the top three cars in qualifying being equipped with the company’s latest GT tyres. Behind Walkenhorst’s record breaking pole position car, the stunning Scuderia Glickenhaus SCG003 prototype and Car Collection’s Mercedes AMG SLS took second and third places in qualifying – all on Dunlop
“This performance shows that we have a strong Nordschleife specific tyre for a diverse range of cars. We aim to make further development steps to build on this strong performance as we enter 2016″ added Kuehn.
Winning in open competition
Dunlop’s focus is to develop tyres in championships with open tyre competition . In addition to the 2015 VLN Speed Trophy, Dunlop customers also won the European Le Mans Series, the FIA World Endurance Championship for LMP2 teams and, on two wheels, the FIM Endurance World Championship and Isle of Man TT.
